Your personal rule of life is a holistic description of the Spirit-empowered rhythms and relationships that create, redeem, sustain and transform the life God invites you to humbly fulfill for Christ's glory. All of us have an unwritten personal rule of life. We wake at certain times, get ready for our days in particular ways, use our free time for assorted purposes and practice rhythms of work, hobbies, and worship. There is already a rule in place that you are following. Isn’t it time to give up your unwritten rule and prayerfully write one that more closely matches the heartbeat of God?
Give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. (Proverbs 30:8) One of the most difficult questions facing Christians today is that of the proper attitude toward possessions. Advent is about telling the story of Jesus with great care and theological depth. We may be creative but not inventive in crafting our Advent messages. Nor are we left to our own speculations. The Bible is our source on how to do Advent well and we have many inspired guides-Matthew, Mark, Luke and John along with the Prophets and Psalms. We have a story to tell to the nations as well as our grandkids and it is important that we get it right.
Dane Aaker has been the pastor at Centerpoint Church in Colton, Ca for 27 years. The attendance has grown from 89 to 1,400 during that time. The church does six Sunday services on a 2 acre downtown campus. Almost half the church is under the age of 30 and the church is 70% Hispanic. Centerpoint is an example of a turn-around church that has experienced slow, steady growth in spite of the fact that it is 125 years old.
